Greg Gartrell

Expertise: Water resource engineering

Greg Gartrell is an adjunct fellow at the PPIC Water Policy Center and an independent consulting engineer. He is an expert in hydraulics and water resources and on Delta hydrodynamics and water quality. Previously, he was assistant general manager at the Contra Costa Water District (CCWD), where he managed the planning, Delta projects, water resources, and watershed and lands Departments. He is the recipient of a number of awards, including the Association of California Water Agencies (ACWA) Lifetime Achievement Award, the ACWA Excellence in Water Leadership Award, the Lorenz Straub Award for his Doctoral Thesis, and the Hugo B. Fischer Award for model development of the Bay–Delta System. He has been a contributor on many published articles including several relating to the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta. He holds a BS, MS, and PhD in environmental engineering science from the California Institute of Technology.
