Expertise: Science, climate change, catastrophe, and risk in the west

Molly Peterson is a 2022–23 PPIC CalTrout Ecosystem Fellow at the PPIC Water Policy Center and a reporter focused on science, climate change, catastrophe, and risk in the west. She began her career as an environment reporter covering water, and specifically the San Joaquin River, for KQED in 2003. Then she reported on Louisiana after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005, including on ecosystem restoration and coastal water issues. For many years, she was environment correspondent at Southern California Public Radio. More recently, her work has appeared at The New York Times, The Guardian, on NPR, at High Country News, on Code Switch, and other national outlets. She will be reporting on the San Joaquin River, the longest river in Central California and the site of an ambitious restoration program.
